Before you assign discounts to your offers, keep in mind: If an offer in your store is linked to more than one discount, all discounts will apply. If the cost of the purchase reaches $0, no further discounts will be applied.

In some cases, discounts are applied to the least expensive eligible item on the invoice. Test your discount in the store prior to making them available to your clients.

1. Discount Types

Discount Code

  • At checkout, the client enters a predetermined code. Codes are case-sensitive, and spaces are taken into consideration. A code does not expire (until it is disabled by the administrator) and there is no limit to the number of times it can be used.

  • Applies a rebate to all eligible items on the invoice.

Coupon Codes

  • Gives a discount when a client enters a code you've shared with them. Codes are case-sensitive and spaces are taken into consideration.

  • Codes can be used once or as many times as you want to offer them. For example, if there are 5 maximum uses, the coupon code can be used a total of 5 times, regardless if it's one client that uses it or 5 different clients.

  • Applies a rebate once to one eligible item (the lowest priced item). The same coupon code cannot be used twice on the same invoice. However, clients can use different coupon codes on the same invoice.

Early Bird Discount

  • Applies a discount to all eligible items purchased within a specific time frame.

  • The discount must have a start and end date.

Age Discount

  • Discount applies based on being at least, at most or in between a certain age.

  • Applies a discount on all eligible items if the participant meets the age requirement.

Location Discount

  • Only available if your organization is located in Canada and hasn't activated Community Segments.

  • If a participant's address has never been validated, SmartRec requests the account owner to type in their postal code prior to checkout. If the participant is a child, the account owner's postal code is used to confirm the child's eligibility. If the participant is eligible, the discount is applied.

  • Applies a discount on all eligible items if the participant lives in the applicable location(s).

Community Segment Discount

  • Available when your organization has activated Community Segments.

  • Upon choosing an eligible item, the participant is prompted to enter their address to validate their eligibility. If the participant is a child, the account owner's address is used to confirm their eligibility.

  • Applies a discount on all eligible items if the participant lives in the required location(s).

Question Discount

  • Prior to checkout, a question prompts each participant who purchased an eligible item to select an answer from the drop-down list. Applies a discount corresponding to the participant's answer.

  • The discount can be applied once per eligible item or once per person.

  • Once per eligible item: The discount is applied as many times as there are eligible items on the invoice.

  • Once per person: The discount is applied once per person who has purchased an eligible item, regardless of how many eligible items they purchased.

Membership Discount

  • Prior to checkout, SmartRec allows participants without a required membership to add it to their cart (when configuring your discount, ensure to suggest membership at checkout).

  • Applies a discount to all eligible items if the participant buys or already has at least one of the required memberships.

Loyalty

  • Generates a unique code on the invoice when a participant purchases an eligible item.

  • Participants can use this code during their next purchase of an eligible item for any member in their account. Another loyalty code is generated on the next invoice to be used during the next purchase of an eligible item.

  • The discount is applied only once per invoice.

External Coupon

  • Gives a discount to clients who enter a unique code. This code is provided by another system (ex: Groupon). Each code can be used until the 'maximum uses' has been reached. Each code can only be used once per invoice. Appears as an 'external payment' at checkout.

  • The client only pays the balance as the actual payment was already made outside of SmartRec.

  • Applies a rebate once to the lowest priced eligible item.

Multi-Person Discount

  • Gives a discount when multiple people from the same account purchase an eligible activity.

  • Create the same discount to be applied to all registrants. Create rules to specify the discount to be awarded. For example, create a rule for when at least 2 people register for an eligible activity. Create as many rules as needed to change the discount depending on how many people register.

  • Applies the same rebate (as per the rule) on all eligible items.

Multi-Person (Multi-Discount)

  • Gives a discount when multiple people from the same account purchase eligible items.

  • Each person who registers will receive the discount corresponding to the established rule. The highest discount is always applied to the lowest total of eligible purchases.

  • Applies the corresponding rebate for each person on all their eligible items.

Combo Discount

  • Gives a discount based on the number of eligible items purchased for the same participant. The discount awarded corresponds to the rule of how many eligible items need to be purchased for the same participant.

  • The highest discount is applied to the least expensive eligible item.

  • Applies the same rebate to every eligible item for a participant, depending on how many eligible items are purchased for them.

Combo (Multi-Discount)

  • Gives a discount based on the number of eligible items purchased for the same participant. The discount varies for each eligible item on the invoice according to the rule.

  • The highest discount is applied to the least expensive eligible item.

  • Applies a different rebate on each eligible item for the same participant according to how many eligible items are purchased for them.

2. Frequently Asked Questions

Can you apply a discount on memberships?

Any discount can be applied. The 'membership required' discount can be applied on New Memberships (including on recurring billing) and our older version of memberships and subscriptions.

Do discounts expire on the day of expiry, or the night before?

Discounts expire at 11:59pm the night before the set expiry date. If your discount expires on May 5th, then it is valid up to 11:59pm on May 4th.

Can the 'By Location' discount be made available in the USA?

The 'By Location' discount is a legacy version of the functionally superior Community Segments discount (available upon activating the Community Segments app). As such, we won't be expanding the 'By Location' discount.

Is there a way to limit a discount to clients making a first purchase?

Not currently.

Do I have to add criterion when configuring a discount?

No. You can add criterion if you wish to further limit discount eligibility based on a beginning/end date, age, membership(s) and/or cities/towns.

Can I use the same discount code for multiple discounts?

You can't create a new Discount Code discount using an existing rebate code, nor can you update the title, code, or remove eligible items if the discount has been used by a client. Your best bet is to create a new discount code.

Can I use discounts on private lessons?

Yes! Contact us at support@amilia.com to try out discounts on private lessons.

How do discounts work with recurring billing?

All discounts are re-calculated every time a new invoice is created. For example, if a client now qualifies for an age based discount due to a recent birthday, this discount will kick in on their next billing date. The same goes for a change of address (location based discount) or any dates configured for an early bird discount.
